OBJECTIVE

Transform urban spaces into meaningful platforms of interaction.

[CROP] Project – Creative Resistance and Open Processes - is an international mobile collective that believes in the power of creativity to not only disrupt, but to empower positive change.

Coming from diverse and multi-disciplinary backgrounds, we use street art to question societal issues, while paying homage to some of our most marginalized and often unseen individuals/communities.

The first [CROP] Project was held in Johannesburg in 2019. Since then we’ve expanded to 5 locations, across 4 different countries, each with its own team of local creatives.

Founded by documentary photographer Boris Mercado & I, each flash interventions was created - from concept to implementation - in under 2 weeks.

My Role

Co-founded the collective, established the vision and played a lead creative and managerial role in bringing creatives together on projects. Other responsibilities included, but were not limited to:

  • Talent Sourcing: Each quick-fire art project started with an open call campaign/event inviting creatives to send us their work. I was responsible for all communication aspects, event coordination and selecting the creative team for each project.

  • Creative Labs: Boris and I co-hosted workshops for the selected artists to showcase their work, discuss relevant topics and to develop a strong concept for the intervention.

  • Art Direction: Collaborating with multidisciplinary artists to tell diverse cultural stories, raise awareness & connect people across platforms.

  • Funding & Partners: Networking, crowdfunding, finding sponsors and seeking out opportunities for creative collaborations.

  • Event Coordination: Co-creating, marketing and hosting events (incl workshops, art exhibitions, music concerts, street interventions, etc).

  • Project Management: Production, facilitation and support throughout all projects.
